An APRIL FOOL'S prank at KEMP BROADCASTING Top 40/Rhythmic KVEG (HOT 97.5)/LAS VEGAS sent worried parents in a frenzy over a fake report that CLARK COUNTY public schools would be charging $100 per month tuition for elementary students and $250 per month for high school students.
The station's morning show with KRAYZIE KAT and JNOISE aired the report on WEDNESDAY morning, resulting in a flood of calls to schools and the CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, which the LAS VEGAS SUN reports called the station to stop the report, only to hear the hosts "embellish" the story by saying that the costs were already decided and nothing could be done about it.
Calls to schools petered out by mid-afternoon, but school district spokesman DAVID RODDY said, "If you look at this in terms of the impact on parents, with the economic conditions and so many families struggling and stressed, that created a situation of unnecessary stress and panic among a lot of parents. That's not being responsible to the audience they serve."
