NEWCAP RADIO's OTTAWA stations, Top 40 CIHT (HOT 89.9) and Alternative CILV (LIVE 88.5), and ad agency ALPHABET CREATIVE have launched a campaign to spread the word that the economy isn't so bad in the OTTAWA-GATINEAU market, with a website called "THIS AIN'T FLINT" and a video that includes clips from MICHAEL MOORE's "ROGER AND ME" that portrays what NEWCAP calls "A real recession, in a real city experienced by real people — 20 years ago."
The title and clip have drawn the wrath of FLINT, MI officials, with FLINT Acting Mayor MICHAEL BROWN's spokesman BOB CAMPBELL telling the FLINT JOURNAL that the video is "lame" and adding, "I would say to the makers of the video 'THIS AIN'T FLINT' that that ain't FLINT, either. It is trying to make a point satirically, and it fails miserably."
NEWCAP OTTAWA GM SCOTT BRODERICK told the JOURNAL, "What happened in 1989 and what's happening right now is not the same. We're using what we believe to be a historical reference point. It contrasts. The FLINT of 1989 is not the FLINT of 2009, and the OTTAWA of 1989 is not the OTTAWA of 2009 ... People might not like our style, but they should look at the substance of what we are saying."
