MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC BROADCASTING Exec. Dir. MARIE ANTOON has announced her retirement, effective at the end of AUGUST. ANTOON was named Exec. Dir. in 2002 after serving on an interim basis for six months.
MPB Board Chairman PERRY SANSING said, "MARIE ANTOON has led MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC BROADCASTING to a new level of excellence and service to the people of Mississippi. Her visionary leadership has increased the stature of MPB both locally and nationally. MPB has a dedicated and highly competent staff who has earned numerous national and regional awards. With the hiring of a new executive director, we look forward to continuing the innovative and creative programs started during MARIE's tenure."
ANTOON said, "It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this organization and to work with a group of exceptional people. I think, though, I am most proud of our work with 'BETWEEN THE LIONS,' which again this year was nominated for an EMMY for Outstanding Preschool Children’s Program, along with 'SESAME STREET.'"
MPB operates eight radio stations, eight TV stations and two TV translators.
