Today's (6/9) TENNESSEAN features a story about how Country artists are building fan bases overseas, even though the expenses are costly and the international marketplace for Country music is nowhere near the U.S.
CAPITOL artist DIERKS BENTLEY recently returned from AUSTRALIA where he opened six shows for ARISTA duo BROOKS & DUNN. DIERKS said: "On this tour we don't expect to make any money, and we shouldn't. This will be the first time we're playing there. We're trying to lay the foundation for future tours."
The article goes on to point out that artists like JOHNNY CASH, GLEN CAMPBELL, DOLLY PARTON, CHARLEY PRIDE, The BELLAMY BROTHERS, DON WILLIAMS and others who internationally toured in their hey days here in the U.S. continued selling records and concert tickets abroad. "For artists who take a long-term view, the reward can be substantial."
