FREE BROADCAST INC. Eclectic 2FBI/SYDNEY needs money, and it's been running a campaign to ask VIRGIN GROUP founder RICHARD BRANSON to donate a million dollars, with anyone responsible for getting the tycoon's attention getting A$50,000 if BRANSON makes the donation. Someone finally got BRANSON's attention by swimming 2.5 miles to BRANSON's home on NECKER ISLAND in the CARIBBEAN, and BRANSON called the station MONDAY ... and declined to donate the money, although he did offer other support.
REUTERS reports that BRANSON told FBI's ALISON PIOTROWSKI that the woman "stumbled into the dinner room ... She swam two-and-a-half miles from another island to our island to tell us about the campaign. She had a great dinner and she stayed the night and I contacted my AUSTRALIA office to find out what was going on."
While he won't be giving the station cash, he has pledged support for the station, including four plane tickets for his VIRGIN ATLANTIC and V AUSTRALIA airlines and tickets to LONDON's V FEST in AUGUST.
