CITADEL Talk KABC-A/LOS ANGELES evening host AL RANTEL is exiting the station after THURSDAY's show, reports LARADIO.COM. RANTEL told the site's DON BARRETT that his departure is the result of dealing with pain from a hip replacement and shoulder injury that forced him off the air earlier this year when he needed to have the hip replacement redone. RANTEL's exit is not related to his successful battle with lymphoma.
"I thought going on permanent disability was the best course of action for my own sake, especially after being through the lymphoma thing, which caused me another nightmare dealing with that," RANTEL said, "I've been through so much that basically I've decided to take the advice of the doctors to try and get better, which might mean another operation on my arm. I hope not but we'll know soon depending on how it works out."
"In fairness to my fans and the brand that I've built over the years, I've decided to step away for now," RANTEL concluded. Station producer and fill-in host JOHN PHILLIPS has been named as RANTEL's replacement.
