JULIUS GENACHOWSKI has been sworn in as Chairman of the FCC. GENACHOWSKI took the reins MONDAY at the agency after having been confirmed last THURSDAY by the Senate. SUPREME COURT Justice DAVID SOUTER performed the swearing-in ceremony.
As he took office, GENACHOWSKI named his initial staff, including attorney EDWARD P. LAZARUS as Chief of Staff; COLIN CROWELL, a former staffer for Rep. ED MARKEY (D-MA), as Senior Counselor; BRUCE LIANG GOTTLIEB, a former legal advisor to Commissioner MICHAEL COPPS, as Chief Counsel and Senior Legal Advisor; attorneys PRIYA AIYAR and SHERRESE SMITH as Legal Advisors; SHERRY GELFAND as Confidential Assistant; CBS new media executive DANIEL ORNSTEIN as Special Assistant; FCC Acting Managing Dir. MARY BETH RICHARDS as Special Counsel for FCC Reform; and attorney RUTH MILKMAN as head of the transition effort.
"The FCC should be a model for excellence in government, and this extraordinarily accomplished team will help us achieve that," said GENACHOWSKI. "The agency will benefit enormously from their leadership, from their private and public sector experience, and from their dedication to public service. I look forward to drawing on their diverse and strong talents to ensure that the FCC pursues policies that unlock opportunity, unleash innovation and job creation, protect consumers, and help address many of our nation’s most pressing challenges."
GENACHOWSKI will chair his first Commission open meeting on THURSDAY (6/2).
