A listener backlash to the cancellation of EMMIS Talk KLBJ-A/AUSTIN's "TODD AND DON SHOW" has some advertisers reeling from a boycott, according to the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN.
Mortgage broker CHRIS PENDERS tells the paper that the boycott has cost his JP PORTGAGE SERVICES $28,400 in canceled business despite his attempts to explain that his continued advertising on the station is due to binding contracts.
The show was canceled MONDAY in the wake of the controversy over show co-host DON PRYOR sarcastically using the term "wetbacks" for illegal immigrants. PRYOR was "reassigned" to off-air duties and co-host TODD JEFFRIES will continue solo and as News Director at the close of their two week suspension without pay; the cancellation was prompted by VP/Market Manager SCOTT GILMORE's consultation with several Hispanic community leaders.
