MTV Exiting Glass-Front Broadway Studio

MTV is planning to leave its famous studio which overlooks NEW YORK's TIMES SQUARE at the end 2009, reports THE NEW YORK POST. VIACOM, MTV's parent company, didn't renew its studio lease when it extended its lease on more than 1 million square feet of offices at 1515 Broadway.
"We're taking it back from MTV at end of year," SL GREEN Leasing Dir. STEVEN DURELS told THE POST. "We're actively marketing it, and we think it will be the crowning touch of the retail development we've done since we bought the building."
An MTV exit from the glass-fronted studio that was home to shows such as "TRL with CARSON DALY," would mark an end of the era that saw TIMES SQUARE's transformation from a crime zone to a safe, wildly-lit mecca for theatergoers and tourists.
But after "TRL" ended its run last FALL, MTV execs apparently saw less need for the studio, which still hosts some shows and events.
