Chicago Sports Columnist, Radio/TV Personality Bill Gleason Dies

Condolences to family and friends of longtime CHICAGO SUN-TIMES columnist and sports commentator BILL GLEASON, who died SUNDAY (1/3) of complications from Parkinson's disease in ELMHURST, IL at 87.
GLEASON, who started his sportswriting career in elementary school and became Sports Editor of the SOUTHTOWN ECONOMIST (later the DAILY SOUTHTOWN, now the SOUTHTOWN STAR) at 19 years old, launched a SUNDAY afternoon radio show, "THE SPORTS WRITERS," in 1975 on TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO. The show moved to television in 1985 as "THE SPORTS WRITERS ON TV" on WFLD-TV/CHICAGO, then on SPORTSCHANNEL CHICAGO and FOX SPORTS NET CHICAGO, and ran until 1998. He retired from the DAILY SOUTHTOWN in 2001.
