ESPN RADIO has won the 2009 Media Eclipse Award in the Audio/Multi-Media Internet category for its live coverage of the 2009 KENTUCKY DERBY on MAY 3rd. The network's coverage was anchored by RECE DAVIS with JERRY BAILEY, BOB VALVANO, RON FLATTER, and JODY MCDONALD on board.
"We’re thrilled and gratified to win the Eclipse Award," said Dir./Exec. Producer of ESPN Radio Event Production JOHN MARTIN SR. "It’s a tremendous honor for ESPN radio and everyone who worked on the broadcast. Radio is theatre of the mind. What we try to do with the DERBY is to convey to the listener just how great it is to be part of what's transpiring -- the ambient sound the jockeys, trainers and the fans."
The LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER took honorable mention for its website multimedia presentations on the KEENELAND SPRING meet.
The Media Eclipse Awards are presented by the NATIONAL THOROUGHBRED RACING ASSOCIATION (NTRA), DAILY RACING FORM and the NATIONAL TURF WRITERS ASSOCIATION to honor thoroughbred horse racing coverage, as an adjunct to the main Eclipse Awards, which honor the top horses of the year and individuals in the industry.
