PACIFICA RADIO noncommercial WBAI/NEW YORK listeners have elected disbarred -- and imprisoned -- civil rights attorney LYNNE STEWART to the station's Board of Directors, reports the NEW YORK POST. STEWART and MITCHEL COHEN were elected on the first round of balloting, with seven more elected over the course of 41 rounds.
STEWART is presently serving a 28 month prison sentence for smuggling messages from her imprisoned client, radical Sheik OMAR ABDEL RAHMAN, to his followers in EGYPT. She does not have a radio in jail but is working on getting permission to have one there.
