The Original Cast
"We Are the World," the 1985 all-star song that raised funds for famine victims in AFRICA, is set to be re-recorded TODAY (2/1) in LOS ANGELES with some of the biggest stars of music looking to raise funds to help those devistated by the HAITI earthquake.
"We'll have three times as many people as we did the first time," QUINCY JONES, who returns as producer, told USA TODAY. Helping those in need "is why we did it in the first place, so why not do it now?" said JONES, who added the new version will have as much reach and fundraising success as its predecessor. "I have confidence, always. I'm so excited."
"I'm planning to be there," SMOKEY ROBINSON revealed SATURDAY. "It's a wonderful idea, not only because it's needed, but as a tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON."
The song, he said, "will hold up forever."
Reportedly appearing on the new version will be JASON MRAZ, LADY GAGA, TAYLOR SWIFT, JENNIFER NETTLES, USHER, BEYONCE, ALICIA KEYS, FERGIE, and many others.
