ALL ACCESS columnist and globally acclaimed promo ace PAIGE NIENABER has collected some of the best SUPER BOWL promotions being aired prior to the big even this SUNDAY in MIAMI. They include:
Shoeperbowl: The 2010 Version. I’m not denigrating (college word) giving away shoes. Great prize. But think "show biz." WIRED/SASKATOON is doing a more visual version of the contest. Two teams of female listeners playing football. Winning team gets shoes and a huge bar tab at the station’s event on SUNDAY.
Super Nookie: KISS and iPOWER/RICHMOND have literally so much Bowl-ish happening I’ll just hit the highlight. They’re offering prizes to women who can seduce and lure their husbands away from the TV during the game.
JOHN, LEAH and KIKI from KOB/ALBUQUERQUE put blue/white and black/gold eggs in a microwave on MONDAY morning to determine the winner based on who blew up first. The COLTS got the nod.
I have some mind-blowing audio from the CARR In The Morning show at B-105/CINCY. It’s the WHO’s rehearsal for the halftime show. The station also is giving away a TOBY Touchdown Throwdown -- with a winner getting food and drink for 20, a 46-inch plasma screen, an autographed TOBY KEITH guitar and his 19-disc catalogue.
FLY 92/ALBANY is doing "Football Term Or Adam Lambert Term?" for Glambert tickets all weekend.
CLARE from the morning show at KZIA/CEDAR RAPIDS is hosting a Non-Super Bowl Party with listeners and her henpecked husband at a coffeehouse where they’ll watch "Moulin Rouge." On the air it’s a Super Bowl Of Junk Weekend. Win Tupperware containers crammed with various prizes.
SCOTTY from RADIO NOW 100.9/INDY is leaving as we speak to go to MIAMI and cause mayhem over the weekend. RAYNE and RIGGS will be party crashing, there will be a halftime mix and they have a World’s Largest Office Pool going all weekend.
From JT at Y-94/FARGO where they’re still hung over from CONAN, having PARIS HILTON at an event this past weekend, and stupidly huge numbers that arrived on MONDAY: Well we've been doing the shoeperbowl promotion with BRETT FAVRE and his wife's shoes -- also we're going commercial-free 4-5:30p on SUNDAY with our pregame party mix. Getting people amped up for the game, cause let's be honest -- during the game nobody's gonna listen to the radio. Then during the game we'll be at a couple bars with T-shirts and giveaways... depends how into it the crowd is. If the VIKES were playing we would probably sit there in silence, but now nobody cares, so let's get drunk!
HOT/DENVER will be at a listener's home and also at a client’s restaurant. The hook will be its Ladies First Mix during halftime.
K-ROCK/KINGSTON is wrapping up its football pool at a sports bar and one of the attendees will also get a 54-inch TV and HARLEY DAVIDSON foosball table.
From BRUCE SIMEL at BEASLEY/NEW BERN: "The coolest thing we do is the Big Bowl of Rock and Roll on one station and the Kiss Bowl on another. It’s artist against artist leading up to SB weekend. We start with 64 bands on rock/32 on urban and they match up once an hour to see who moves on. We judge it based on callers to studios, e-mails, FACEBOOK. The phones light up. The audience is truly engaged in the music. ALICIA KEYS or MARY J BLIGE? MICHAEL JACKSON or LIL WAYNE? On the rocker its AC/DC vs ZEPPELIN. The winner is crowned champion FRIDAY at 5p in a two- to four-hour final and their music is featured SB weekend. That’s it. No prize. It’s not needed. The audience loves it and the station comes alive that week like no other.
