Radio Marti, VOA Sharing Resources

CUBA-aimed RADIO MARTI and the VOICE OF AMERICA are sharing resources, reports ASSOCIATED PRESS, and are beginning joint production of some programming.
The first formal co-production is "A FONDO," a news program aimed at VENEZUELA, and Rep. ILEANA ROS-KEHTINEN told AP, "I am looking into this issue to ensure that this is an effort to maximize resources to expand U.S. coverage in the region and not a back door to reducing U.S. broadcasts to CUBA.... If this reduces the capability of RADIO and TV MARTI, it would be another concession to the Cuban regime who fears the uncensored information these broadcasts offer."
The OFFICE OF CUBAN BROADCASTING, in charge of RADIO MARTI, has been under budget pressure in recent years and has weathered criticism of its operation and programming.
