Clear Channel Moves: WSTH Revives The South, WRAK Flips To Gen-X

CLEAR CHANNEL/COLUMBUS, GA and ALBANY GM OM MARK THOMPSON had a very busy couple of days. Last FRIDAY (2/12) at 7p CLEAR CHANNEL Country WSTH (ROOSTER 106.1)/COLUMBUS revived the SOUTH 106.1 moniker, and YESTERDAY (2/14) at 5p, Classic Hits WRAK/ALBANY, GA flipped to a "Gen-X" format with new calls WGEX.
THOMPSON told ALL ACCESS, "It's an honor to bring back a historical station that services such a large broadcast footprint of two states, GEORGIA and ALABAMA. SOUTH 106.1 truly is the sound of the SOUTH." MARK DRISCOLL is the voice of WSTH, and the station's new site is at mysouth1061.com.
GEN X RADIO features music from the 80s and 90s, focusing on active women 25-44, with hits from Grunge, Hip Hop, Hair Bands, Boy Bands and other categories, featuring music by artists like U-2, EMINEM, DAVE MATTHEWS, MADONNA and PEARL JAM. THOMPSON added, "ALBANY's new GEN-X RADIO is the newest concept in AMERICAN radio, and unlike traditional radio formats, GEN-X RADIO is not defined by one genre, rather it's the feel and vibe present in pop culture at the time."
