Sen, RICHARD LUGAR (R-IN) has introduced a bill to permanently authorize RADIO FREE ASIA, the station aimed at MYANMAR (BURMA), CAMBODIA, CHINA, LAOS, NORTH KOREA, TIBET, and VIETNAM, reports the PRESS TRUST OF INDIA. The station has been operating for 14 years without permanent authorization and relies on a budget appropriation each year; the bill would give the station long-term budget authority.
LUGAR said he is disappointed at the pace of free speech reforms in the targeted countries.
