BCA Sports XEPRS-A (XX 1090)/SAN DIEGO morning team SCOTT KAPLAN and BILLY RAY SMITH are off the air in a contract dispute.
The station posted a message on its website reading, "We are very sorry to inform you that SCOTT and BR will not be on the air until a dispute is resolved. BCA is currently in a contractual dispute with SCOTT KAPLAN and BILLY RAY SMITH, as a result of SCOTT and BR's attempt to terminate their agreements prior to its scheduled expiration in 2012. BCA believes that its agreements with both SCOTT and BR remain in full force and effect, and that their attempted early termination is in violation of their agreements. We promise to do our best to provide the best in Sports Talk and entertainment in their absence."
KAPLAN and SMITH teamed up in 2001 at the old XETRA-A (XTRA SPORTS 690) and moved to XX in 2003 when that station launched. Rumors in the market point to CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock KGB as the team's possible destination, replacing the departed DAVE, SHELLY AND CHAINSAW.
