Mary Chapin Carpenter To Receive Spirit Of Americana Award

Country artist MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER will be presented with the "Spirit of Americana" Free Speech in Music Award from the NEWSEUM's FIRST AMENDMENT CENTER and the AMERICANA MUSIC ASSOCIATION. CARPENTER will receive the award at the "Freedom Sings" event on APRIL 27th at the NEWSEUM in Downtown WASHINGTON, D.C.

The "Spirit of Americana" award recognizes artists who have used their work to raise awareness and promote free speech through their music and other efforts. Past recipients include JOHNNY CASH, KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, JOAN BAEZ, MAVIS STAPLES, JUDY COLLINS, CHARLIE DANIELS and STEVE EARLE.

JUDY COLLINS and RODNEY CROWELL will perform at the ceremony. Tickets are on sale now at www.newseum.org.
