The previously rumored deal that would put ESPN RADIO midday weekday programming on LOS ANGELES ANGELS Sports-Brokered Talk KLAA-A (AM 830)/ORANGE-LOS ANGELES is official with the news that the station will air several ESPN RADIO shows, including some simulcast with crosstown ESPN RADIO O&O KSPN-A (710 ESPN)/LOS ANGELES.
The new lineup at "AM 830 -- ANGELS RADIO IN ASSOCIATION WITH ESPN," starting MONDAY (4/5), includes a simulcast of ESPN's "MIKE & MIKE IN THE MORNING" 3-7a, the local RODGER LODGE show 7-10a, ESPN RADIO's SCOTT VAN PELT 10a-1p and DOUG GOTTLIEB 1-4p, "RIDING DIRTY" 4-5p, ESPN's BRIAN KENNY 5-7p, ESPN's SPORTSCENTER NIGHTLY 7-10p, and a simulcast with 710 ESPN of the network's "ALL NIGHT WITH JASON SMITH" 10p-2a and SPORTSCENTER AM 2-3a.
The deal also includes KSPN simulcasting AM 830's ANGELS game coverage, with about 60 games airing on 710 ESPN. The ANGELS broadcast last year's games on CBS RADIO News-Talk KFWB-A; the team aired on 710 AM for many years, including throughout the '60s and '70s when both the team and the station, then KMPC-A, were owned by GENE AUTRY. 710 ESPN PD LARRY GIFFORD will oversee programming, while AM 830 President DENNIS KUHL will continue to direct operations at the ANGELS' station.
"We're very excited about expanding the presence of ESPN in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and renewing our relationship with the ANGELS," said 710 ESPN VP/GM CHRIS BERRY. "This association will enhance what is already a powerful lineup of play-by-play partners, including the LAKERS and USC."
"We are very pleased and proud of the new partnership between ESPN RADIO and the ANGELS' organization," said ESPN RADIO SVP TIM MCCARTHY. "From an ESPN perspective, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA sports fans will now be able to experience our complete radio lineup including The SCOTT VAN PELT Show and The DOUG GOTTLIEB Show. This is especially exciting for DOUG, as he will now be heard in his native ORANGE COUNTY."
"This partnership with ESPN Radio will allow listeners of KLAA AM 830 the opportunity to follow sports both on the local and national level," said KUHL. "In addition to the excitement of ANGELS Baseball, DUCKS hockey and NOTRE DAME football, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA fans will have access to up-to-date news and interviews with key personalities in the world of sports through ESPN's SCOTT VAN PELT and DOUG GOTTLIEB."
