Willie Nelson's Opposition Doesn't Stop Bill From Passing
April 8, 2010 at 8:50 AM (PT)
According to the TENNESSEAN, a HOUSE subcommittee passed a bill that allows horse slaughterhouses and processing plants in TENNESSEE by a 7-6 vote. This bill was the subject of controversy between Country artist WILLIE NELSON and TN Rep. FRANK NICELEY (R-KNOXVILLE) as reported by ALL ACCESS YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 4/7).
WILLIE’s daughter AMY and granddaughter RAELYN were present at the meeting last night to support WILLIE in his stand against the bill. NELSON is currently pushing another bill to be passed in CONGRESS called the PREVENTION OF EQUINE CRUELTY ACT, which would make it illegal to transport horses here or out of the country to slaughter and process for eating. The bill will move to the full HOUSE finance committee next week.
