Former LOS ANGELES Police Chief DARYL GATES, who hosted a radio talk show for KFI-A/LOS ANGELES after his stormy tenure at the helm of the LAPD, died TODAY (4/16) at his home in DANA POINT, CA after a battle with bladder cancer.
GATES, who was 83, served as Chief of the LAPD from 1978 through his 1992 resignation in the wake of the RODNEY KING beating incident. He then hosted afternoons at KFI in 1992-93, filling the gap between the departure of TOM LEYKIS and the arrival of JOHN AND KEN.
