BAYLOR UNIVERSITY's BRAZOS VALLEY PUBLIC BROADCASTING is sparing noncommercial NPR affiliate KWBU-F/WACO from the fate of sister PBS affiliate KWBU-TV, which will shut down at the end of MAY due to budgetary concerns. The stations face a $400,000 shortfall for next fiscal year and the stations' President JOE RILEY said that BAYLOR cannot increase its support of the stations any further.
RILEY noted that "community support has never been strong, and has declined significantly in the past two years. It amounts to less than a fifth of our overall budget." He added, however, that the radio station "will continue without any reduction in service."
