UMG and WMG have settled a copyright infringement case against PROJECT PLAYLIST, which now has licensed content deals in place with three of the four major labels. MUSICWEEK.COM reports "The action was taken by the labels as the PLAYLIST.COM site let users create widgets of streaming playlists from both authorized and unauthorized sources around the web. These could then be embedded on sites like FACEBOOK and MYSPACE."
Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
PROJECT PLAYLIST has deals in place with EMI and SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Reports say UMG cut a deal in the wake of this settlement.
PROJECT PLAYLIST added MTV Networks veteran (and MTV co-founder) JOHN SYKES as CEO in APRIL 2009 (NET NEWS 4/24/2009)
