RAMAR COMMUNICATIONS AC KLZK/LUBBOCK, TX air personality morning host CHARLES JOSLIN was jailed on two counts of theft for allegedly scamming listeners out of money he was raising to ostensibly donate to a single mother trying to raise a child with cancer. RAMAR management has subsequently paid $26,199 in restitution to 40 victims of the scam.
According to AMARILLO.COM, JOSLIN asked for donations on-air for the mother and child, whose father was killed in Iraq, from JAN. 11th to FEB. 1st. He told people who donated money that they'd be entered into multiple drawings for prizes such as trips or SUPER BOWL tickets. He received anywhere from $100 to thousands, depending on the prize being offered.
Management officials became suspicious of the fundraiser when they called SOUTHWEST AIRLINES, where JOSLIN allegedly claimed the mother worked, and were told that she wasn't an employee, When JOSLIN subsequently changed his story each time he talked about it, management alerted authorities on FEB. 3rd.
