Nielsen Study Shows Pandora In Top 5 Of Smartphone Apps

NIELSEN's latest study of mobile apps ranks PANDORA as the fifth most-popular application used on the iPhone OS and BLACKBERRY OS and fourth among Android OS apps.
On the iPhone OS, FACEBOOK leads the field, followed by iTUNES, GOOGLE Maps and THE WEATHER CHANNEL. On BLACKBERRY OS, FACEBOOK leads, followed by GOOGLE MAPS, THE WEATHER CHANNEL and ESPN. Android users chose GOOGLE MAPS, followed by FACEBOOK, THE WEATHER CHANNEL, PANDORA and GOOGLE SEARCH. PANDORA was fourth for all other smartphones (such as Windows Mobile).
Music apps constitutes 46% of smartphone use, the fifth largest category, and 45% of use on featurephones, ranking second. The study found that iTUNES, PANDORA and SIRIUS XM appeal more to males, with YAHOO! MUSIC split almost evenly male/female.
21% of American mobile subscribers had a smartphone at the end of fourth quarter 2009, up from 19% in third quarter and 14% at the end of 2008.
