MCA/NASHVILLE artist LEE ANN WOMACK’s 16-year-old niece JOY was featured in SUNDAY’s NEW YORK TIMES World section in a story devoted to AMERICAN students who have traveled to RUSSIA to study ballet at the prestigious BOLSHOI BALLET. The 16-page spread is also featured on the TIMES’ website, where readers can view JOY’s studies and life halfway around the world.
JOY took a summer session in AMERICA with BOLSHOI teachers and they asked if she would like to enroll at the school to study with 750 of the country’s best dancers. She was one of 90 foreign students selected to attend. When she first got there, she couldn’t speak much RUSSIAN.
LEE ANN said: “I almost laughed out loud when they told me she was going to RUSSIA to do this. But JOY is the kind of girl who's not only not afraid of the dream, she figures out how to make it happen. Hope she dances? I guess I was aiming a little low.”
