Blago Considered Oprah, WVON's Melody Spann Cooper For Senate Appointment

The corruption trial of former ILLINOIS Governor ROD BLAGOJEVICH continued TODAY with the playing of a wiretap in which BLAGOJEVICH and his former Chief of Staff JOHN HARRIS discussed possible Senate appointees to replace BARACK OBAMA in the wake of OBAMA's election as President, and among the names discussed were MIDWAY Talk WVON-A/CHICAGO President/GM MELODY SPANN COOPER and OPRAH WINFREY, reports the CHICAGO TRIBUNE.
COOPER's name came up on the tape, recorded DECEMBER 2nd, along with former CHICAGO school board head and Mayor's Chief of Staff GERY CHICO, JOHNSON PUBLISHING's LINDA RICE JOHNSON, and Rep. DANNY DAVIS (D-IL), in the context of who BLAGOJEVICH could appoint after OBAMA's friend VALERIE JARRETT pulled out of the running, thus taking away BLAGOJEVICH's leverage from doing OBAMA a "favor" by appointing JARRETT.
After BLAGOJEVICH threw out the names of non-ILLINOIS residents ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER and MARION WRIGHT EDELMAN, he decided that the appointee should be African-American so it might help him with black voters, and he mentioned WINFREY, debating with HARRIS the merits of nominating a celebrity.
