All of us at ALL ACCESS are saddened to learn of the passing of HARVEY FUQUA. FUQUA was a singer, songwriter, record producer and label executive. He is probably best remembered as the lead tenor and founder of the '60s doo-wop group THE MOONGLOWS. He is credited with discovering singer MARVIN GAYE. He is the nephew of CHARLIES FUQUA of THE INK SPOTS.
FUQUA was hired by MOTOWN legend and founder, BERRY GORDY JR. to head A&R at the label. He brought JOHNNY BRISTOL, TAMMI TERRELL and THE SPINNERS to MOTOWN. He also acted as road manager for SMOKEY ROBINSON in the late '70s.
In 2000 FUQUA became an advisory board member of THE RHYTHM & BLUES FOUNDATION. HARVEY FUQUA was 80. Funeral arrangements are pending.
