DR. LAURA SCHLESSINGER told LARRY KING on his CNN show TONIGHT that she plans not to renew her contract with TALK RADIO NETWORK to continue her radio show after the end of the year.
DR. LAURA appeared TONIGHT (8/17) on CNN's "LARRY KING LIVE" to discuss her apology for using the "N-word" on her AUGUST 10th show (NET NEWS 8/11). In her announcement, she said that she is not renewing the contract so that she can "regain my First Amendment rights."
"My contract is up for my radio show at the end of the year and I've made the decision not to do radio anymore," SCHLESSINGER told KING. "The reason is I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that." She emphasized that she is not retiring but will step away from the radio show for now to concentrate on writing and public speaking. "I would like to make it clear that I am not retiring – I’m too young for that – and I’m not quitting. I will be stronger and freer to say my mind through my books, my YOUTUBE channel, my blog and my website. And I’ll be on TV more, because I’ll have the freedom to speak my mind."
