October 4, 2010 at 4:25 AM (PT)
Former RADIO DISNEY O&O WDRD-A/LOUISVILLE has flipped to Sports using ESPN RADIO. The station was one of four RADIO DISNEY stations (including WDZK-A/HARTFORD, WBWL-A/JACKSONVILLE and WDDZ-A/PROVIDENCE) on the chopping block last week, slated to go dark, but went to the Sports format over the weekend.
The JACKSONVILLE station found a buyer in STUART EPPERSON's CHESAPEAKE PORTSMOUTH BROADCASTING last week for $650,000; EPPERSON's company is moving Talk WBOB-A to WBWL's frequency and is applying for a reduction in nighttime power and change in directional pattern.
ESPN RADIO was last heard in LOUISVILLE on CUMULUS Sports WQKC-A (1450 THE TICKET), which went dark on AUGUST 2nd.

Meanwhile, in ALBUQUERQUE, RADIO DISNEY has a buyer for KALY-A in the nonprofit JENNIFER SMART FOUNDATION, which is acquiring the station for an undisclosed price and will begin airing its own "JENNiRADIO" format for "tweens, teens and families later this year. JENNIFER SMART is a teenager who founded the charity for raising awareness of issues regarding kids' health, education, animals and the environment at the age of 14 in honor of her late grandmother.
