Longtime CITADEL Talk KGO-A and KSFO-A/SAN FRANCISCO Pres./GM MICKEY LUCKOFF has resigned after 35 years on the job under four owners -- ABC, CAPITAL CITIES, THE WALT DISNEY CO., and CITADEL.
"The memories and honors we have shared together are truly extraordinary: 12 Marconi Awards; two EDWARD R. MURROW Awards; the first major station in the country to 'Go Solar;' 37 years of Cal Football; the 'great years' with the 49ers; raising $18 million for Leukemia and Lymphoma research; helping those less fortunate through our Thanksgiving Charities; launching, nurturing and sustaining the best live and local talent in the radio industry; and being on-the-scene for some of the biggest news stories of our lifetime," LUCKOFF wrote to the staff in a letter announcing his resignation.
These aren't very good people. They don't treat people well.
LUCKOFF later told the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE's ANDREW S. ROSS about CITADEL, "These aren't very good people. They don't treat people well. They undermine you at every turn." He said he was "absolutely, positively" not forced out, but added, "This has been building up for some time.... I've had the resignation letter in my desk for nine months."
