December 8, 2010 at 4:31 AM (PT)
As DOUG MORRIS' end-of-the-year exit from the CEO post at UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP approaches, is the veteran music industry leader talking to SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT about taking the reins there? The NEW YORK POST has gone to press TODAY with the rumors that have been swirling of late in the music industry, reporting that MORRIS has been talking to SONY CEO HOWARD STRINGER about joining the label to replace the retiring ROLF SCHMIDT-HOLTZ. The paper notes that MORRIS' UNIVERSAL contract calls for him to remain on board at UMG as Chairman after stepping down as CEO and runs through JANUARY 2013 and that he is "unlikely" to leave UMG before the end of the year.
The rumors are heating up in the wake of BARRY WEISS' reported jump from SONY's BMG LABEL GROUP to UMG to head the company's EAST COAST operations (NET NEWS 12/7).
