WNCI Helps Homeless Ted Williams Score Several Jobs
January 5, 2011 at 3:11 PM (PT)
What an amazing outcome for TED WILLIAMS, as his day with CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WNCI/COLUMBUS' MORNING ZOO resulted in huge turnaround for the homeless airtalent who attracted worldwide attention yesterday (NET NEWS 1/04) when THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH did a story on his situation.
This morning, WNCI's DAVE KAELIN & JIMMY JAM interviewed TED, along with all three local network affiliates as well as INSIDE EDITION, CNN, and the TODAY SHOW, and the floodgates of opportunity opened wide.
Among the offers TED has:
- Arena announcer for THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS -- including a salary and they will buy him a house
- OHIO CREDIT UNION LEAGUE gave him $10,000 cash and a retainer deal for voicework
- ESPN is reportedly offering him a job
- MTV reportedly wants to discuss a reality series
- A free vacation trip to HILO, HI to voice a commercial ... and the list goes on!
ALL ACCESS spoke with DAVE & JIMMY about the experience. DAVE said, "I've never been on the other side of the media surge like this before! We had 20 people in our studio -- all with live cameras. This was truly amazing. Twenty-four hours ago TED was on a street corner begging for cash -- today he's got some amazing offers. Hopefully he will have someone help him so that he keeps it all together."
JIMMY added, "TED really rolled well with the punches today. We wonder if the CAVS are giving him LeBRON JAMES' old house (rimshot). Today we gave and did as much for any one person as we've ever done in our 20 years together as a morning show. Tomorrow we flip the coin and are talking to SNOOKIE!"
WNCI PD TONY FLORENTINO told ALL ACCESS, "It was an amazing morning. Voiceover legends JOE CIPRIANO and RANDY THOMAS called in to chat with TED (see the video here) and spoke about him doing some VO work for FOX and being part of their new show 'AMERICA'S NEXT VOICE'. I've been in radio a long time now, and this is truly the best day in radio I've ever had."

And, this bit of trivia from CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KDWB/MINNEAPOLIS OM/PD ROB MORRIS, who told ALL ACCESS, "I worked with TED at WVKO/COLUMBUS in the 80s. Glad to see this is working out for him."
First Rip Off Goes To WKSS
Not missing a viral opportunity when he sees one, CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKSS (KISS 95.7)/HARTFORD PD STAN "THE MAN" PRIEST huddled with COURTNEY & KISS IN THE MORNING staffers BRADY and WALMART JEFF to spoof on the magic moment surrounding TED WILLIAMS' instant success.
Oh the shame of it all rising in the air like a freshly planted cow-pie as BRADY drives, and WALMART JEFF shares his God Pipes with the world, when you click here to view "Homeless Jeff", but scroll down the page a bit.
STAN told ALL ACCESS, "We were all so impressed and touched with TED's story as is the rest of the world, we're doing this all in good fun."
