THE GLOBE AND MAIL's BRUCE DOWIGGIN is reportng that cable sports network TSN is considering creating its own Canadian national sports radio network.
TSN President STEWART JOHNSON told DOWIGGIN, "Will there be a branded TSN RADIO coming up soon? I'd say we're looking at it for sure. It could be a matter of a branded content as opposed to a branded station, or it could be making better use of our guys. ...But it's a possibility." However, JOHNSON wondered if the ESPN RADIO national template would work in CANADA and added, "We've found that in CANADA, local is key."
TSN is owned by CTV, which also owns the CHUM RADIO stations nationwide, including sports stations in WINNIPEG, OTTAWA, VANCOUVER, and MONTREAL, and ESPN, which holds a 20% interest in the network. A previous attempt at a national sports radio network under the "TEAM" banner failed several years ago.
