Deals to make appearances on radio stations in TORONTO and PHOENIX and on a syndicated show have led the controversial WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH to call off its plans to picket at the funerals of the victims of the TUCSON shootings.
SHIRLEY PHELPS-ROPER, spokesperson for the group known for protesting funerals and claiming that the deaths are God's retribution for permitting homosexuality, will appear on SALEM RADIO NETWORK's MIKE GALLAGHER show MONDAY and appeared on CORUS Alternative CFNY (102.1 THE EDGE)/TORONTO with DEAN BLUNDELL TUESDAY (1/11); the church, headed by PHELPS-ROPER's father Rev. FRED PHELPS, was also given airtime on the COMMUNICOM Religion KXXT-A/PHOENIX-based "STEVE SANCHEZ SHOW" on SATURDAY morning.
The church's pickets will, however, continue with its plans to picket the memorial service for diplomat RICHARD HOLBROOKE in WASHINGTON this weekend.
