UMG, Sony U.K. Launch Singles To Radio, Retail Simultaneously

Starting FEBRUARY 1st, UMG and SONY MUSIC will launch an "On Air, On Sale" policy in the U.K., where singles will be put on sale the same day they are released to radio, SKY NEWS ONLINE reports. The move is designed to minimize the loss of single sales to piracy.
In a statement, UNIVERSAL MUSIC UK Chairman DAVID JOSEPH admitted: "We live in an immediate world. 'On Air, On Sale' is good news for any music fan and exciting for our artists who can now go into the studio knowing they don't have to wait weeks or sometimes months to see the music they have created go on sale."
UNIVERSAL MUSIC has already released the debut single from JESSIE J the same day it was serviced to radio. "Do It Like A Dude" climbed to #2 in the singles chart on SUNDAY.
