As expected, JOURNAL Sports KXSP-A (BIG SPORTS 590)/OMAHA is picking up the ESPN RADIO affiliation for the market. Crosstown NRG Sports KOZN-A (1620 THE ZONE) announced MONDAY that it is picking up the FOX SPORTS RADIO affiliation formerly held by KXSP. The switch is scheduled for FEBRUARY 1st. With the change, KXSP will take the ESPN feed in full until it adds local programming at a later date.
"This new lineup of ESPN programming means we can add more national sports features to our continuing commitment as the radio home of local sports coverage for CREIGHTON BLUE JAYS Basketball and IOWA HAWKEYES football," said JOURNAL OMAHA Dir./Operations MARK TODD. "KXSP has one of the strongest signals in the Midwest that allows us to serve the tens of thousands of sports fans in the OMAHA region."
"Partnering with ESPN, perhaps the most recognized brand in sports media, will be a tremendous asset to all of our OMAHA operations," added JOURNAL OMAHA VP/Market Manager CHRISTOPHER SEHRING. "Even better, our association with ESPN will enable us to provide the best in sports information and entertainment to our listeners and advertisers."
"We are very pleased to be expanding our relationship with an excellent partner and broadcasting group as JOURNAL," said ESPN RADIO Exec. Dir./Affiliate Sales JIM ROBERTS. "OMAHA sports fans will continue to be well-served as ESPN is brought to JOURNAL BROADCAST GROUP's many media platforms."
