AMERICAN IDOL, post-SIMON COWELL, launched its 10th season last night, with new judges STEVEN TYLER and JENNIFER LOPEZ trying to put their own stamps on the long-running hit show. The reaction so far -- good, but many miss COWELL's attitude.
TYLER tried, quipping "Did you eat paint chips as a child?" he asked a burping contestant, before adding: "We have a higher standard here."
J LO was generally friendly, defending KENZIE PALMER, a PHILLY teen with a voice that failed to excite TYLER or JACKSON. "You guys are crazy -- she's beautiful, she's only 15 and she's giving us some energy." she said.
DEVYN RUSH, a 20-year-old singing waitress from PENNSYLVANIA, appeared to be the standout singer from the initial show, with LOPEZ telling her, "Your voice is the star," but then commented on her fashion, "so start dressing that way -- because this business is about image as well."
