KTRU Finds New Home On KPFT HD2 Channel

The programming of RICE UNIVERSITY noncommercial student-run KTRU has found a new home to keep the station going after its sale to the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON, but it'll be on HD RADIO, as a multicast channel of crosstown PACIFICA noncommercial Variety KPFT. The HOUSTON CHRONICLE reports that KTRU will broadcast over the HD subchannel starting on FEBRUARY 14th.
The sale of KTRU for $9.5 million has been a controversial move on the RICE campus; the U. OF HOUSTON's plan is to replace the student programming on KTRU with Classical, freeing its noncommercial Classical-Talk KUHF-F to air all-News-Talk programming. KTRU programming will simulcast on the present 91.7 FM slot and on KPFT's HD2 channel until the sale of 91.7 closes.
