Video game maker ACTIVISION BLIZZARD is abandoning "Guitar Hero" and focusing on battle games such as "Call of Duty."
"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband ACTIVISION PUBLISHING's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its 'Guitar Hero' game for 2011," said ACTIVISION, in its Q4 earnings statement.
Why discontinue such a popular brand?
"These guys are smart and they realized that the packaged goods business is going away," KAUFMAN BROTHERS Analyst TODD MITCHELL told CNN. "They want to shift to a digital model. It was a choice they made to exit businesses they felt were sub-par profitable."
