While the GRAMMYS will be awarded this SUNDAY to artists on creative merit, many of those same artists' creations have been quite popular with the public. The RIAA cited several of them with Gold & Platinum honors in the JANUARY G&P certifications report.
CAPITOL RECORDS songstress KATY PERRY enjoyed the most multi-Platinum digital certifications thus far in 2011: with JANUARY song certifications representing more than eight million digital downloads sold. "CALIFORNIA GURLS" (featuring SNOOP DOGG) went 4x multi-Platinum, "TEENAGE DREAM" went 2x multi-Platinum, while "FIREWORK" went Gold, Platinum and double-Platinum.
Platinum plaques also go out to JASON ALDEAN for My Kinda Party (BROKEN BOW), JOSH GROBAN’s Illuminations (143/REPRISE), RIHANNA’s Loud (DEF JAM) and KANYE WEST’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (ROC-A-FELLA). SUGARLAND’s release, The Incredible Machine (MERCURY), also hit Platinum.
In JANUARY the RIAA awarded a total of 29 album and 24 digital single certifications. Complete lists of all album, single, mastertone and video awards can also be accessed at www.riaa.com.
