Metropolitan Opera Airs M-F Word

The airing of a "word you can't say on television" (or radio) on the METROPOLITAN OPERA's syndicated presentation this week caught several ears and raised the question of whether complaints to the FCC might generate indecency fines. The MET's staging of "NIXON In China" included the line "we'll teach these motherf--kers how to dance."
The PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER's MICHAEL KLEIN reports that TEMPLE UNIVERSITY Classical-Jazz WRTI/PHILADELPHIA's DAVE CONANT said he took two complaint calls, one for the language and one complaining about the opera in general.
Meanwhile, posters at the website of WNYC RADIO Classical WQXR/NEW YORK debated the word's airing, with one poster saying "My young children were listening. You can't tell me that no one at WQXR knew this line was in the opera and that it would be on the air? Shameful! I am filing a complaint with the FCC."
