CITADEL BROADCASTING has become the latest on a growing list of parties sued by RIGHTHAVEN LLC over using a newspaper's material on a website without permission.
CITADEL Talk WPRO-A-WEAN/PROVIDENCE host MATT ALLEN posted a photo from the DENVER POST website for a captioning contest, precipitating the lawsuit, according to the LAS VEGAS SUN. RIGHTHAVEN's suit, as in other cases, asks for $150,000 damages and seizure of the WPRO web domain.
RIGHTHAVEN has been involved in several such suits on behalf of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL and DENVER POST; the papers transfer copyright to the material to RIGHTHAVEN, which then files suit against sites that post the material in whole or part, whether attributed or not, without prior permission. RIGHTHAVEN has filed at least 239 such suits, according to the SUN.
