MEXICO's version of the FEDERAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION, COFETEL, has approved iBIQUITY's HD Radio In-Band, On-Channel technology for voluntary adoption by AM and FM broadcasters. Analog service will continue, as HD RADIO broadcasts are added to the current analog transmissions, the latter of which will continue, as well as a side-by-side "hybrid" service.
“We are delighted by COFETEL’s action to approve HD Radio Technology in MEXICO," IBIQUITY DIGITAL Pres./CEO ROBERT STRUBLE said. "This is a major milestone made possible by many years of hard work with Mexican broadcasters and regulatory officials. We are pleased that COFETEL has recognized the unique benefits HD Radio Technology will bring to the Mexican broadcasting industry and its citizens. As the process moves forward, we will be working closely with station owners in MEXICO, retail partners, OEM AUTO and CE product manufacturers for a rapid launch of HD Radio Technology."
