KRVR Drops Smooth Jazz For Adult Hits After Transmitter Issues

THRESHOLD COMMUNICATIONS Smooth Jazz KRVR (105.5 THE RIVER)/MODESTO has jettisoned Smooth Jazz after 16 years, making the move to Adult Hits. The flip was planned to happen on FEBRUARY 28th, but technical problems pushed back the launch.
Said Owner/GM/PD JIM BRYAN, "We were just days away from the big switch, but started getting calls from listeners and a couple of clients who said our signal was not coming in good. We checked and found the station only operating on 20% of licensed power. It had been raining a lot lately, but we had to get to the transmitter, high in the Sierra Foothills near COPPEROPOLIS. On inspection, we found a power amp had blown in the transmitter."
Now came the hard part. "We quickly purchased, and had delivered, a new transmitter, much smaller and solid state," continued BRYAN. Co-owners BRYAN and DOUG WULFF "used a dolly to roll the new transmitter a half mile of muddy road up the hill to the tower. Then they discovered that high voltage wasn’t getting to the building, and had to get electricians to come up the muddy road to repair overhead lines."
Unfortunately, a storm knocked the new transmitter off the air after just 18 hours.
Continued BRYAN, "Another hike up the hill, and a few kicks and we got the old transmitter back on line at half power, but another storm is blowing in. If we have one more transmitter failure, we may have to switch the format back!"
