Barry Weiss Named Chairman/CEO At Island Def Jam And Motown-Republic

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reports, "It's official. BARRY WEISS has been named Chairman/CEO of ISLAND DEF JAM and UNIVERSAL MOTOWN REPUBLIC GROUP. The appointment comes on the heels of ANTONIO 'L.A.' REID's departure from IDJ" (NET NEWS 3/17).
ALL ACCESS told you two weeks ago (NET NEWS 3/4), that with the official announcement of DOUG MORRIS being named CEO of SONY MUSIC, departing RCA/JIVE LABEL GROUP Chairman/CEO BARRY WEISS decided to exit the company -- planning to land at IDJMG.
UMG Chairman LUCIAN GRAINGE wrote in an internal memo, "Throughout his career, BARRY achieved that rare and delicate balance between managing artistic needs and the realities of the business. He is a multidimensional executive and entrepreneur, who possesses a deep love of music and an incredibly successful track record in building the careers of premiere artists.
