Seattle-Tacoma February 2011: After A Few Close Finishes, KJR-F Finally #1
Even a huge Christmas music-fueled HOLIDAY ratings period couldn’t make CLEAR CHANNEL Oldies KJR-F #1 in SEATTLE-TACOMA, so maybe it was sweeter to do it in FEBRUARY with 5.5 P6+. While the 5.5 was lower than the 7.7 they scored in the HOLIDAY month, it was well above the low-4s that KJR-F was scoring pre-Christmas music. FEBRUARY’s gains for the station were apparent in other key demos, too, including 21% share growth and a move from #3t to #1 P35-64.
SANDUSKY AC KRWM (WARM 106.9), the HOLIDAY and JANUARY winner, was tied for #2 P6+ in FEBRUARY (5.4) with ENTERCOM Rocker KISW.
KISW fought back hard with a second strong month in a row in the P25-54 demo (#1), as did #2 CBS RADIO Classic Rock KZOK and #3 ENTERCOM Country KKWF, which rose from #9t in JANUARY. No doubt some of KISW’s power came from its BJ SHEA MORNING EXPERIENCE, which went from #3 to #1 P25-54 for the month.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP- KISW (P18-49), KZOK (P25-54)
Trending DOWN- CRISTA BROADCASTING Christian AC KCMS (SPIRIT 105.3) (P18-34), KZOK (P18-34), ENTERCOM Alternative KNDD (107.7 THE END) (P18-49)
Phoenix February 2011: KESZ Maintains Some Of Its Christmas Bump
CLEAR CHANNEL AC KESZ's 7.0 P6+ in PHOENIX in FEBRUARY was not only good for #1, but was up from 5.9 in JANUARY and more than two share points higher than the station scored before it started playing Christmas music in NOVEMBER. CBS RADIO Classic Hits KOOL (KOOL RADIO) was #2 (6.4) while CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KZZP was #3 (4.8).
KESZ also maintained #1 positions in P18-49, P25-54, and P35-64, demos in which the station had ranked #7, #5, and #3 respectively in NOVEMBER.
KZZP (#4 to #2) moved past CBS Top 40/Rhythmic KZON (101.5 JAMZ) (#2 to #3) P18-34. RIVIERA BROADCASTING Top 40/Rhythmic KKFR (POWER 98.3) dropped from #8t to #11 in the demo.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP- FARMWORKER Regional Mexican KNAI (RADIO CAMPESINA) (P6+), MARICOPA N/T KJZZ (P18-34), SANDUSKY Classic Rock KSLX (P18-49), UNIVISON Spanish Adult Hits KOMR (P25-54, P35-64), BONNEVILLE Sports KTAR-A (SPORTS 620) (P25-54), KOOL RADIO (P35-64), BONNEVILLE Talk KTAR-F (P35-64)
Trending DOWN- SUN CITY Latin Urban KVIB (P18-34, P18-49)
Baltimore February 2011: Magic Reclaims Top Spot
RADIO ONE Urban AC WWIN (MAGIC 95.9) was back to #1 P6+ in BALTIMORE in FEBRUARY for the first time since OCTOBER with 8.3. CBS RADIO AC WLIF (101.9 LITE FM) relinquished the top spot, falling to #2 (8.1) while CLEAR CHANNEL Country WPOC maintained its #3 position (7.3). MAGIC also took the #1 spot P25-54 and P35-64.
LITE’s P6+ share was higher in FEBRUARY than it had been pre-Christmas music (8.1 vs. 7.7 in NOVEMBER). But MAGIC's upper demo shares, P25-54 and P35-64, were more than one point lower in FEBRUARY than they had been in NOVEMBER.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP- BONNEVILLE News WTOP-F (P18-49, P25-54), PETER & JOHN RADIO FELLOWSHIP Christian AC WRBS (95.1 SHINE FM) (P25-54
Trending DOWN- SHAMROCK Classic Rock WZBA (100.7 THE BAY) (P18-49)
Pittsburgh February 2011: WDVE, BOB Tops In Steel City
CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WDVE (9.8) and STEEL CITY MEDIA Adult Hits WRRK (96.9 BOB-FM) (8.0) were down marginally P6+ in FEBRUARY in PITTSBURGH, but were still strong enough to be #1 and #2 in that demo as well as P18-49, P25-54, and P35-64. CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKST (96.1 KISS) was #3 P6+ with 7.8.
KISS was #1 P18-34, the only key demo in which WDVE and BOB didn’t finish #1-#2 (BOB was #2, WDVE was #3).
Post-Christmas music hangover? Many stations whose listeners gorged themselves on their Christmas music programming have been unable to retain the added cume and TSL. In PITTSBURGH, two stations went all-Christmas, RENDA BROADCASTING AC WSHH (WISH 99.7) and Clear Channel Classic Hits WWSW (3WS), and the two have had different results since returning to regular programming. WISH’s share and cume in FEBRUARY were above their NOVEMBER pre-Christmas music levels, while 3WS’ comparable numbers were flat or slightly down from NOVEMBER.
Snapshot Trends (3 consecutive months, up or down)
Trending UP- CBS RADIO Hot AC WBZZ (STAR 100.7) (P25-54), KEYMARKET COMMUNICATIONS Country WOGI (FROGGY) (P25-54), WASHINGTON Oldies WJPA (P35-64)
