SUNDAY's SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE featured a look at the increasing influence of CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES afternoon hosts JOHN AND KEN in CALIFORNIA state politics. The article by CHRONICLE Editorial Page Editor JOHN DIAZ describes the team as the "kings of LOS ANGELES Talk radio" who rip both Democrats and, especially, Republicans who fall afoul of the hosts' positions against tax increases and illegal immigration, and notes their populist stances and iconoclasm (including supporting last year's Proposition 19 to legalize marijuana).
"It's amazing how many conversations about the budget process with my Republican colleagues start with a mention of JOHN AND KEN," State Senate Pres. Pro Tem DARRELL STEINBERG (D-SACRAMENTO) told DIAZ. JOHN KOBYLT told DIAZ that "The democracy in CALIFORNIA is utterly, completely corrupted on both sides."
