FCC Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI testified before the House Appropriations Committee oversight hearing WEDNESDAY explaining how the proposed $354 million agency budget for fiscal 2012 is "fiscally responsible" and necessary.
BROADCASTING AND CABLE's JOHN EGGERTON reports that GENACHOWSKI stressed the agency's role in broadband development and pointed out that the Commission has raised over $50 billion over 20 years in spectrum auctions while at the same time reaching a 10-year low in staffing levels.
GENACHOWSKI noted that the agency has been able to accomplish several tasks, including a baseline spectrum inventory and regulatory review, with limited resources; he is also asking for $1 million for an extensive media ownership diversity study.
